Cops in East Hanover say gas station attendant fueled credit card theft scheme

(02/10/05) EAST HANOVER ? Police in East Hanover have arrested a gas station attendant and accused him of using a hand-held device to steal credit card information from customers.

According to police, Ismail Acim used a small electronic ?skimmer? to read credit cards used at an Exxon on Route 10 East and River Road. Police say Acim would then download the electronic information and use it to make bogus credit cards. Authorities say they caught on to the scam after a credit company contacted one victim about unusual card activity.

So far, police officials say they have identified 10 victims. However, they also say there could be many more. Police are asking anyone who thinks they may have been victimized to check their credit card statements and call (973) 428-3053 if any suspicious items are found.
