Meadowlands Parkway Bridge in Secaucus may be shut down

Many people who drive over one bridge in Secaucus may soon have to find an alternate route if it is shut down.

Inspections are currently underway on the Meadowlands Parkway Bridge to check its structural integrity. Officials say parts of the bridge are crumbling in certain places. Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell says there is too much at stake with the bridge to take any chances in keeping it open.

The mayor admits if the bridge needs to be closed down it could lead to some major traffic problems on the road and in other parts of town. An engineering report is due out early next week to let officials know if the bridge needs to be closed.
