Former state Senator Joseph Suliga killed instantly after car crash

Former state Senator Joseph Suliga, 47 was killed Friday night after being involved in a car crash.

Police are still investigating the crash which took place in front of Cheeque?s Go-Go Club on East Linden Avenue. Linden police say former Senator Suliga was in the back seat of a parked car that was hit by a man driving the wrong way. Investigators say he was killed instantly.

Suliga was employed as the Linden City treasurer at the time of his death, which earned him the reputation for having a strong sense of business and finances. Linden?s mayor says Suliga will be remembered more for his accomplishments than for the circumstances of his death. The mayor adds there will be an emergency meeting of all the financial officials in the city to talk about what to do next.

The driver of the car Suliga was sitting in was injured in the crash as was a woman standing outside the car. Police say they questioned the driver who slammed into Suliga?s car and they don?t believe alcohol or speed were factors.
