Police uncover more information about deadly Lodi shooting
(02/23/05) LODI ? Police say they have uncovered more information about a deadly gang-related shooting that occurred in Lodi on February 18.
According to investigators, the shooting appears to be retaliation for the robbery of a South Hackensack drug dealer. Police say the entire incident began when Ralph Pinto and Paul Ricardi stole drugs and cash from Jose Vega, a member of the Latin Kings street gang.
Investigators believe as retaliation, Vega made plans to have the two men kidnapped and brought back to him. Authorities say Pinto and Ricardi were lured to a parking lot on the night of the shooting under the pretense of a drug deal. It was there that police say they were supposed to be put in the trunk of a car and taken back to Vega?s residence.
Authorities believe the kidnapping attempt turned into a shooting, leading to the death of Pinto. They have arrested eight suspects in connection with the incident, including one person Wednesday. They say more arrests are on the horizon.
