Population boom may lead to Morristown Police Department expansion

(02/24/05) MORRISTOWN ? Members of the Morristown Police Department say they would like to hire additional officers to keep up with the town?s growing number of residents.

According to a department spokesperson, an increase in the population has also led to a greater number of crimes. Under a proposed plan, the department will hire an additional 10 officers during the next five years. Many Morristown residents say they would feel safer with a greater police presence in the area.

However, not everyone is happy with the idea of added police personnel. Morristown Councilman Dick Tighe says there isn?t enough money in the budget to expand the police force. In addition, some residents feel the town is safe enough with the current size of the department.
