Acting Governor Codey unveils $27.4 billion state budget

Acting Governor Dick Codey unveiled his $27.4 billion state budget Tuesday to a joint session of the Legislature.

Codey has to resolve a $4 billion deficit for the fiscal 2006 budget by July 1. He is asking residents to pay a little more for goods and services to deal with the deficit. Codey also want to cut $400 for the top Homestead Rebate checks paid to elderly and disabled residents. Homeowners would be asked to forgo their New Jersey Saver checks completely.

This will be the first budget in nine years that doesn?t increase spending.
