Cleanup costs in New Jersey snowballing after string of winter storms
(03/01/05) EDISON ? Officials in many townships throughout New Jersey say this winter?s snowfall has caused cleanup costs to accumulate in a big way.
As many residents dig out of the latest winter blast, town bookkeepers in the Garden State are keeping a close eye on their cleanup budget. Some town officials say more winter weather could force them to dip into emergency money or pare down the budget to pay for various winter services.
Town officials say the matter has been made worse by the timing of the snowfall. Due to the fact that many of this winter?s storms have occurred on the weekend, townships have often had to pay plow operators and other personnel time and a half.
