Explosion causes building collapse at Eatontown Petco, five people hospitalized

(03/04/05) EATONTOWN - Authorities say emergency crews have rescued five people that became trapped in rubble after an explosion caused a building collapse at an Eatontown Petco.

According to authorities, the five individuals have "critical" injuries and are being taken to area hospitals. Rescuers with search dogs and listening devices are continuing to search through the debris to make sure no one else has been trapped.

Police say the explosion occurred when construction workers damaged a natural gas line outside the store. At the time of the explosion, four Petco employees and a contractor were inside the structure. All five victims who were rescued are expected to survive.

Authorities say most of the animals have been rescued.
