Commuters have new adjustments when traveling on the Garden State Parkway
There are new adjustments for commuters on the Garden State Parkway at some southbound tollbooths. Northbound commuters on the Garden State Parkway will stop at the Union Toll Plaza near Interstate 78 and pay 70 cents, while southbound drivers will pay nothing.
The tollbooths on the south side of the Union Toll Plaza will be coming down by the end of the month. These tollbooths are the third set on the parkway where one side is toll-free. Parkway officials say travelers will eventually be able to go for an 80-mile stretch without having to slow down.
Parkway officials hope to have the southbound tollbooths cleared and repaved by July. By July, they also hope to have express EZ-Pass lanes in place at the Toms River, Raritan, and Asbury Park tolls. That will allow users to drive through one large open lane, rather than the separate EZ-pass booths.
