Proposed budget could increase taxes in East Windsor Regional School District

Residents in the East Windsor Regional School District, including Highstown, may soon be getting a tax hike if a proposed budget is approved.

The school board introduced a budget that will raise taxes as much as 26 cents. Some homeowners could face a tax increase of more than $500 under the proposed budget. Superintendent of Schools Ron Bolandi says a combination of several financial factors caused a real problem for the budget, including construction at six locations.

Some homeowners say the increase is necessary to maintain the libraries, schools and roads. Others say paying 30 to 40 percent more in taxes in four years is outrageous. A public hearing on the school budget will be held March 22. A vote on the budget is scheduled for April 9.
