Police trying to rescue teens from icy pond fall in themselves in Morristown

While police officers tried to rescue two teenagers from an icy pond in Morristown Tuesday, they also fell into the water.

According to police, 14-year-old Wendy Umansor and Jose Alverez, 18, came to Burnham Park to walk across a frozen pond but the ice wasn?t strong enough. Police say when they arrived at the pond, Umansor and Alverez were up to their necks in the water.

Police say they had to act quickly to rescue the teens because they had been submerged for five minutes. However, during the rescue three of the officers fell into the water. Umansor and Alverez, along with the officers were treated and released from Morristown Memorial Hospital.
