Archdiocese of Trenton to close six Catholic schoolsPosted: Updated:
The Archdiocese of Trenton announced Wednesday that six of its Catholic schools will be closing in September.
Saint Agnes and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Monmouth County are among those closing. Archdiocese officials plan to merge those two schools into one school called Mother Teresa of Calcutta Regional in Atlantic Highlands. The four other schools that are closing are located in Burlington County.
Archdiocese officials say they are shutting down the schools because of decreasing enrollment and increasing financial debt. The reorganization of Catholic schools began in 2005. There are two other schools in Monmouth County that may soon be shut down as well.
