Trenton house fire kills elderly disabled man

(02/13/06) TRENTON ? A house fire on the 300 block of Second Avenue in Trenton claimed the life of an elderly, disabled man Monday.

Neighbors attempted to enter the burning house to save the man, but were turned away by the flames and smoke. A woman, said to be the man?s caretaker, was able to escape the destruction. Neighbors say the woman was clearly upset over having to leave someone behind in the house.

The fire also severely damaged a neighboring home. Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the deadly incident. The woman who escaped the fire was treated for smoke inhalation at a hospital.
