West Caldwell woman dies in house fire

? A woman is dead after a fire destroyed her West Caldwell home Saturday morning.

Firefighters say the blaze ripped through a two-story home on Distler Avenue killing 76-year-old Muriel Pansarasa and injuring her 75-year-old husband Charles. Investigators say the victim?s husband was across the street when the fire started, but tried to rescue his wife. Firefighters believe high winds may have caused the flames to spread quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
