Neighbors mourn Newark boy killed in house fire
? A steady stream of mourners paid their respects Sunday to a 6-year-old Newark boy who died in a house fire.
Neighbor Tracey Hillsman stopped by the burned home on Ridgewood Avenue where Rahjahn Thomas lost his life Saturday night. Hillsman, who has known the family for over 30 years, says she was very close to Rahjahn. He is being remembered as a happy, loving child. Witnesses say some neighbors tried to help the boy escape, but were overcome by smoke and flames. Firefighters say other family members made it to safety, but were injured trying to rescue the child.
The community plans to help the family relocate and cope with the loss.
