Monroe Township seniors among victims in fatal Chile bus crash

(03/23/06) MONROE TOWNSHIP ? An administrator for a Monroe Township retirement community says many of the victims involved in a tour bus crash in Chile were residents at the facility.

According to the spokesperson, 10 of those killed were residents of The Ponds at Clearbrook. Representatives of Celebrity Cruises say the victims were vacationing on a cruise and taking a private tour. After swerving to avoid a truck, their bus plunged 300 feet down a mountainside.

A spokesperson for The Ponds at Clearbrook says the victims were touring chile because they were adventerous individuals who loved life. The deceased residents were all in their 60s and 70s. Two other Americans not from New Jersey were killed in the accident, and two other residents of The Ponds at Clearbrook were injured.
