Moussaoui jurors hear chilling tape from doomed Newark flightPosted: Updated:
? Jurors deciding the fate of confessed September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui heard the final moments from the plane that originated in Newark and crashed in Pennsylvania.
Hamilton Peterson, who lost his father and stepmother on the doomed Flight 93, said the recording was chilling, but also a testimony to the American spirit. Passengers are heard both pleading for their lives and deciding to take down the plane before it could hit its intended target, the U.S. Capitol.
The prosecution rested its case Wednesday. Thursday, the defense will try to persuade jurors Moussaoui should spend life in jail, instead of being put to death. They argue his role in the plot was small and he suffers from mental problems. Moussaoui pleaded guilty last year to conspiring with al-Qaida to fly planes into U.S. buildings.
