A North Branford man has confessed to having sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on a Web site devoted to Gothic culture.

Phillip Palmieri, 34, says he met the girl on a site called vampirefreaks.com. He says he had sex with the girl at least twice at the Super 8 Motel in Milford. Palmieri pleaded no contest Thursday in state court in Stamford. He faces nine months to two years in prison.

The case has further raised awareness among parents about the dangers of the Internet. Child safety advocates say parents can play a huge role in keeping their children safe from Internet predators. According to advocates, parents should have a discussion with their children about the possible dangers of the web. In addition, experts urge parents to keep computers in a common area so their child's activity can be monitored.
