New Jersey drivers leave starting gate for holiday destination
(05/26/06) RIDGEFIELD ? Residents throughout New Jersey are ditching their desks and hitting the roads for the start of the Memorial Day weekend.
Heavy volume on the New Jersey Turnpike will likely create some aggravating traffic situations heading into the weekend. Turnpike Authority representatives say some of the traffic troubles can be alleviated through the use of E-Z Pass, which will allow vehicles to pass through tolls without a complete stop.
Transportation officials urge all drivers to take it slow, especially in the midst of rain that could make the roads slippery. According to representatives of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, motorists should obey posted speed limits and remain 2-3 car lengths behind the nearest vehicle.
