Health officials brainstorm bird flu preparation plans in New Brunswick

Posted: Updated:

(05/31/06) NEW BRUNSWICK ? State and local health officials met in New Brunswick Wednesday to share information about planning for a possible bird flu pandemic.

Although there have been no reported bird flu cases in the U.S., state health officials say that?s no reason to ignore planning measures. Many residents believe there?s no way the government could effectively plan for an outbreak. State Epidemiologist Dr. Eddy Bresnitz disagrees with that sentiment. He says New Jersey is as prepared as any other state.

Despite his confidence in the state?s plans, Bresnitz also says there?s always room for improvement. No matter how effective New Jersey?s plans are, many hope health officials never have to use them.
