Police, school officials investigate sexual assault of student in Newark

Police and school officials are investigating Friday the sexual assault of a 16-year-old student in Newark.

According to police, the girl was assaulted on Tuesday after going to change for gym class in the locker room of the YMCA adjacent to Science High School. The school has leased the gym at the YMCA for the past 23 years and nothing like this has ever happened. The president of the YMCA says the locker room has a combination lock on both doors so anyone who enters must know the combination.

Police along with school and YMCA officials are taking the incident very seriously.
