Sayreville courtesy busing cuts draw fire from parents and police

(06/29/06) SAYREVILLE ? The Sayreville School District?s decision to cut courtesy busing has raised concerns with both parents and police.

Members of the Sayreville Police Department say they?re worried about the safety of students following the move. According to police, the lack of busing could make crowded streets and complicated crosswalks even worse. Police say more crossing guards will be needed to keep students safe.

The district cut busing in an effort to save money. The decision was made after the issue was put up for public vote. According to the district, extra effort will be made to ensure the safety of students.
