Jogger discovers two homemade pipe bombs in Saddle Brook park

Posted: Updated:

(07/05/06) SADDLE BROOK ? Police and bomb squad officers descended on a Saddle Brook park Wednesday after a jogger discovered two pipe bombs left in plain sight.

The jogger found the homemade devices next to a bike path at Saddle River County Park. Despite being simple devices, police say they were still very dangerous. According to police, anyone standing within a few feet of the bombs during detonation would be killed or seriously injured. The bomb squad later moved in and ignited the devices.

Investigators don?t believe the person who made the bombs wanted to target anyone. They believe the devices could have something to do with the Fourth of July weekend. Pieces of the bombs were sent to the FBI and ATF for examination. Investigators urge anyone with information about the case to call the Saddle Brook Police Department at 201-843-7000.
