Experts say New Jersey residents must take hurricane threat seriously

(08/03/06) MT. HOLLY ? Meteorologists say an increased number of Atlantic hurricanes could increase the risk of a dangerous storm hitting the shores of New Jersey.

If a hurricane were to make landfall, it could put residents and visitors at the shore in serious danger. Experts say the Atlantic Ocean cycles through peaks and valleys in terms of hurricane activity. According to meteorologists, the cycle is at a peak right now.

When it comes to hurricane preparations among residents, experts say the biggest enemy is complacency. According to the Red Cross, 68 percent of people throughout the U.S. do not have a disaster supplies kit. They urge all residents to properly prepare before it?s too late.
