Long Branch bar brawl morphs into deadly shootout
What started as a fight at a Long Beach bar Saturday morphed into a deadly shootout that killed one man and injured another.
Police say at least two men were involved in a fight at Murphy?s Bar. One fled the establishment only to return with a gun. Witnesses say the gunman open fired, hitting a bar patron five times. The wounded man stumbled back into the bar where he died at the scene. Another patron was shot, but survived. There is no word on his condition. The shooter fled and is still on the loose.
Neighbors say in recent years they?ve become increasingly concerned about the type of crowd that frequents the bar. At least one person who lives near Murphy?s said he hoped the bar would be permanently shuttered.
