Election season turns Paramus cops into sign police

Posted: Updated:

(10/09/06) PARAMUS ? Some police officers say they?ve got their hands full sifting through political signs on public property before elections.

It is illegal for individuals in Paramus to place signs in public areas. However, officers say that hasn?t stopped some enthusiastic individuals. Police say the so-called ?sign pollution? is an eyesore on certain areas of the community. In addition, it takes extra manpower to get rid of them once they are posted.

Some attribute the problem to campaign workers not knowing the laws. Either way, that?s not going to make the removal any easier for police officers.
