Mystery, shock surrounds death of James Caldwell H.S. football player

(10/12/06) WEST CALDWELL ? Faculty and students at James Caldwell High School are dealing with the sudden, stunning death of a well-liked football player.
Sixteen-year-old James Bliss, known as Jamie, collapsed after making a tackle at football practice Wednesday. His coach immediately attempted to treat him following the collapse. EMTs later arrived on the scene and used a defibrillator. However, Bliss was eventually pronounced dead at Mountainside Hospital.
The teen?s coaches say there were no indications Bliss was ill in any way. A cause of death has not been determined, but a scheduled autopsy may shed some light on the incident. Grief counselors were made available to students at the high school Thursday. Football coach Ken Trimmer says the students and faculty are a family, and they?ll ban together to get through their grief.
