Defendant sucker punches own lawyer in Essex County courtroom, witnesses say
An Essex County man, who was already in trouble with the law, managed to get himself in even more hot water Wednesday. Trial lawyer Robert Littles was at Essex County Superior Court defending his client 28-year-old Hakim Spencer. Witnesses say in front of the judge and jury, Spencer decided to turn on his lawyer and sucker punched Littles.Spencer?s original case was declared a mistrial. He now faces a slew of new charges for the alleged attack, including five counts of aggravated assault and one of resisting arrest. He is due back in court next month, with a different lawyer.
