Proposal to merge Jersey shore towns sparks controversy among residents
Residents of Rumson are upset over a proposal to merge their shore town with another just a bridge-length away. The proposal comes from former councilman Andrew Menchenski. He says Sea Bright?s oceanfront community should look to merge with nearby Rumson. He says if the two towns become one it will solve Sea Bright?s costs like school and municipality taxes, all of which Menchenski says are far too high. Menchenski has brought his proposal to town leaders and plans to bring it to the state level. Some Sea Bright residents are in favor of the proposal if it saves them money and say a change in name wont change their town. However, Rumson residents say they don?t see the advantage for them and don?t want any part of it.
