Some Monmouth County beaches are closed to the public Tuesday due to bacteria and feces-laden water. State officials said runoff from a nearby pond, which contains a high amount of goose droppings, contaminated the waters. As a result, Brown and York Avenue beaches in Spring Lake are closed, as are Terrace Beach and Beacon Beach in Sea Girt. State officials were supposed to dredge the pond two years ago, but that plan was stopped to preserve wildlife. With no other plan of action in place, residents say the beaches are often closed. "They should do some research and have a better plan maybe, so we can have the beaches open during the summer,? said Carrie Slavinski, of Point Pleasant.
