Minor injuries reported in 5-car Brick Township accident

Brick Township police say five vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Cedar Bridge Avenue this afternoon.

The Brick Police Department determined that the 22-year-old driver of a Toyota Scion ran a red light as it was traveling northbound on Brick Boulevard at the intersection with Cedar Bridge Avenue.

When the Scion entered the intersection, police say it struck two cars traveling westbound on Cedar Bridge Avenue, a blue Ford Windstar and a black Nissan Maxima. Police say that when the Scion struck the Windstar and the Maxima, it overturned and struck a pole. It proceeded to land upside down on the hood of a Nissan Sentra. Authorities say the light pole then fell onto a fifth car.

The driver of the Scion was transported to Ocean Medical Center with minor injuries. Authorities say that a female in the Nissan Sentra, who was approximately 9 months pregnant, was also transported to the hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

Police say the driver of the Toyota Scion was issued a summons for failure to observe the red light and for careless driving.
