Jackson Memorial H.S. students mourn death of classmate

Students at Jackson Memorial High School are mourning the death of their classmate today after he was killed in a car accident Friday night.

James Volpe, 17, was a baseball player who would have graduated in three weeks. He and two of his teammates were driving on Route 37 in Lakehurst when they struck another vehicle. Volpe was thrown from the car, which was split in half by the impact.

Investigators say they plan to reconstruct the fatal crash and are still trying to determine if either driver involved was speeding. They're also waiting for blood test results to see if alcohol or drugs played a part.
