Man charged with firing at Paterson police officer

Police say a man is facing attempted murder charges after opening fire on a police officer in Paterson early this morning.

Officials say Ahmed Mims, 23, shot at the officer as he sat in his patrol car at Haldeon Avenue and North Main Street around 2 a.m.

Investigators say bullets hit the windshield three times, but did not injure the unidentified officer inside.

Officials say Mims had an outstanding warrant for drug-related charges.
