Bergen County teen grows garden for needy

One Bergen County teen is using his green thumb to give back to those in need.

Robbie Bailey, 15, handled all the fund-raising, planning and research to plant a vegetable garden for the needy at the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey.

He raised about $600 for supplies and used seeds donated from a local farm to plant lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, squash and more.

Bailey says he's growing the garden as a project to become an eagle scout. He was given a hand sowing seeds by local Boy Scouts today.

When the produce is ready for picking, it will be donated to the Center for Food Action, an agency that helps feed some 800 families in Bergen and Passaic counties.
