Irvington cops: Woman linked to daughter's death in trouble before

Police have released new information on the Irvington woman accused in the death of her 8-year-old daughter.

The New Jersey Department of Children and Families has reported that Venette Ovilde has been investigated four times since April 2008.

Ovilde has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment after her daughter was found dead. An autopsy determined she died from an untreated leg fracture and severe malnutrition.

Prosecutors say the woman's religious practices may have played a role in the abuse of the girl. Two other children have been removed from the home and hospitalized. Olivde's roommate, Myriam Janvier, has also been charged with child endangerment.
