Fire breaks out at Bayonne chemical facility

An explosion rocked International Matex Tank Terminal (IMTT) Cogeneration plant in Bayonne Wednesday night, followed by a fire.

The explosion could be heard throughout Bayonne as it rocked the 520-acre chemical processing facility and sent thick black smoke through the air captured by Chopper 12.

Flames from the plant could be seen well into the night, hours after the initial explosion. People that live near by described the noise they heard as sounding like "a bunch of dynamite going off at one time."

There was no immediate word on injuries or damage.CHOPPER 12: Fire at Bayonne chemical facility
