NJ politicians call for recognition of service women

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) spoke in Teaneck today about women and their service in the military.

Menendez said more than 250,000 women have served in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to federal officials. Menendez says he and other New Jersey officials are advocating for service women to receive the credit they deserve.

Genevieve Chase, who served in Afghanistan and was awarded a Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge, says she has been shut out of benefits and promotions that male combat troops receive.

Chase is now an Army reservist, as well as the founder of American Women Veterans. She is fighting for benefits equality among female veterans.
