Authorities discovered more than 50 dogs and puppies in a Monmouth County home yesterday that an official says smelled of urine and feces. Muriel Ennis, 69, and her son Chad Ennis, 40, are accused of running an illegal dog-breeding operation from their home on Jersey Avenue in Spring Lake Heights.

The Monmouth County SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Division brought two moms and a total of 29 puppies to the shelter.

The animal-rights group says the home in Spring Lake Heights is not fit for animals or humans.

In an interview with News 12 New Jersey yesterday, Muriel Ennis admitted what she was doing was wrong and said she got in over her head. She says she was breeding dogs to make extra cash to help stay afloat.

The SPCA says it anticipates additional dogs coming into the shelter in the coming weeks. People interested in adopting the animals have already lined up at the SPCA in Eatontown filling out applications.
