Signs are going up today to remind drivers of a toll increase that's set to take place in the new year.

Motorists will see the increase on Jan. 1, when tolls go up 53 percent on the turnpike and 50 percent on the Garden State Parkway.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority officials say the additional revenue from the two-phase toll increase is not being used to pay operating costs. Instead, they say the revenue is funding a $7 billion capital program and other transportation projects.
