Monroe residents evacuated after gas main struck

Several residents of a gated community in Monroe Township were evacuated this morning after construction crews struck a gas main.

Construction workers struck a main near the corner of Greenleaf and Heather ways. Firefighters and emergency medical crews arrived on the scene in less than 3 minutes to evacuate residents.

Monroe Township Fire Department Chief James Carbin said once the main was secured, the 24 evacuated residents were allowed back into their homes.
