7-alarm fire continues to rage in Elizabeth

Firefighters have been battling what's now a seven-alarm fire in Elizabeth for nearly two days.

Elizabeth fire officials say the blaze likely started with a car fire inside a sub-basement section of the former Burry Biscuits warehouse on Newark Avenue Wednesday afternoon. Officials say the fire has spread to four floors, with some spots reaching the fifth floor.

Fire officials say there have been several collapses within the structure and more may need to occur before firefighters can begin to extinguish the flames.

Officials say there is no immediate danger to the public, but say anyone in the area should keep their windows shut. They say it could be days before the fire is extinguished.
