Accidents on I-280 snarl evening commute

The traffic situation on I-280 is back to normal tonight after rush hour commuters coped with delays from two separate incidents.First, a dump truck took out an overhead sign in the westbound lanes near exit 5B in Livingston. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDot) shut down the road because the clearance was only about 12 feet, and blustery winds made the repairs go more slowly.
"It's the signs, grabbing the signs off the overhead, the wind wants to take it away. Take it right to the ground as fast as possible," said crane operator Sam Costa.
NJDot opened all but one westbound lane on I-280 by 5 p.m. Further complicating the evening commute, just before 7:30 p.m., a car accident closed three lanes at exit 7 on I-280 west.
