A young child died from a gunshot wound in Newark this morning, and police have identified a suspect in the crime.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the 2-year-old boy, Mikhy Robinson, was shot in the head inside an apartment at 57 St. James Place at approximately 9:48 a.m. He was taken to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:14 a.m.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced tonight that Wakir Bryant, 27, is wanted for aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses in connection with the toddler's death.
A warrant has been issued for Bryant's arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor's Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-7432.
