Artificial reef under construction
An artificial reef is being built in Brielle. The concrete reef will serve as both fashion for divers and function for fish.
The 8-and-a-half foot horseshoe and the floating barge will be dropped into the ocean as an artificial reef this spring, a habitat for marine animals weighing 25,000 pounds.
The concrete reef is expected to survive underwater for crustaceans and fish for at least 500 years.
