Hess sets its sights on the Brick City

Hess Corp. is proposing to build a brand new power plant on land adjacent to its Newark oil refinery on Doremus Avenue. The plant would be one of the largest in New Jersey.

The plant would provide power to metro New York City, itself powered by gas provided by a pipeline which would also pass through Jersey City. Hess is proposing a $750 million investment to build it. That's twice the cost of Prudential Center.

The project is still in its infancy. Residents will have their chance to voice their opinions in public hearings.
