Morristown park renamed for local veteran
Morristown is renaming Veterans Park for a local veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War.
Bob Tracey won the Welterweight Championship of the 3rd Fleet while fighting in the Pacific in World War II. He came home, joined the National Guard and married his wife, Mary, in 1949.
Tracey was soon called back to action in the Korean War. He returned home to his wife two years later. Tracey became a carpenter and later served for three decades as Morristown's postmaster.
He was also an usher at St. Margaret's for 60 years and became a lifelong member of the American Legion, looking out for his fellow vets.
Tracey is a survivor of throat cancer, being cancer-free for four years.
