Girl Scouts walk across George Washington Bridge

The Port Authority will light the George Washington Bridge in green this month in honor of the Girl Scouts.

Hundreds of scouts walked across the span between New Jersey and New York on Sunday to celebrate the organization's upcoming centennial next year.

More than 2,500 scouts, parents and troop leaders crossed thebridge and back as part of a ceremony called "bridging." Ittypically takes place when the girls earn higher ranks in theorganization.

Sixteen-year-old Anna Kohli of Woodcliff Lake told The Recordnewspaper "Girl Scouting has been a big part of her life for thepast 11 years.

Other scouts explained how the group has taught them how to aidthe elderly and the homeless.
