East Windsor teen suspended from school for Confederate shirt

An East Windsor teen was suspended after wearing a Confederate flag sweatshirt to school.

The girl's mother, Jane West, claims the school has overstepped its boundaries and is considering withdrawing her daughter from Krep's Middle School. West says her daughter, Torri Albrecht, was suspended for refusing to change or flip her sweatshirt inside out.

The family, originally from Virginia, says they consider the flag as part of their heritage. The school district says any garment that distracts from class violates its dress code.

Some say the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and hate, while others consider it a part of familial and cultural heritage.
