NJ seeks disaster aid for October storm

(AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is seekinghelp from Washington for damage caused by the October storm thatpounded parts of the state with snow, rain and high winds.

Christie has asked President Barack Obama for a major disasterdeclaration for 11 counties.

Christie wrote the president that the storm's impact on treesand power lines rivaled Hurricane Irene.

The governor is seeking funds to reimburse towns and agenciesfor emergency work, debris clearance, and the repair or replacementof facilities damaged by the storm and flooding.

The declaration would cover Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hunterdon,Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warrencounties.
