Suspects in off-duty Newark detective killing appear in court
The two suspects arrested in connection to the killing of an off-duty Newark police officer were in court today.
The alleged gunman, Jerome Wright, and his girlfriend Nashali Gadson face felony murder, robbery and weapons charges. Both were in court for their arraignment appearances.
The courtroom was packed with family members and Newark police officers in support of fallen Newark Detective Michael Morgan.
Officials say Detective Morgan was gunned down outside a Paterson strip club where he was celebrating a friend's birthday. Authorities say he was walking a dancer to her car when they were allegedly robbed by Wright who shot Morgan once in the torso, killing him.
Police got a break when they say Wright tried to use a stolen credit card the next day at a Newark Foot Locker store. They were arrested in Bensalem, Pa.
